Located on the former site of the Fleetwood Metal Body Company (“Fleetwood Body”) and its predecessor, Reading Metal Body Company, the surviving buildings of the Fleetwood Body complex began their conversion to premier loft rental apartments in 2022.

Fleetwood Body was established in the early 1900s and quickly became a leader in producing high-quality metal bodies for various brands, crafting automobile bodies for leading manufacturers, including Rolls-Royce, Cadillac, Fiat, Bentley, and Lincoln. With its innovative designs and attention to detail, Fleetwood Body quickly gained a reputation for producing among the finest metal bodies available. Over the years, Fleetwood Body set the standard for bespoke auto bodies, even turning away orders at their peak. In 1925, Ohio-based Fisher Body acquired Fleetwood Body. General Motors later purchased Fisher and closed the Fleetwood, PA, autobody facility in the 1930s. The Fleetwood Body legacy lived on after the General Motors acquisition and plant closure, with its commitment to excellence and innovation as a badge of luxury for Cadillac’s Fleetwood model. Fleetwood Metal Body left a vital stamp on automotive history, and the revitalization of Fleetwood Lofts complex seeks to honor and preserve that legacy.
